The Bistro in Koregaon Park

Popcorn Crab at The Bistro PuneBistro opened a few months back at Oakwood Premier in Koregan Park.  With the casual ambiance of a roadside Italian cafe, this is another welcome addition Pune's growing dining scene.  I have been a fan of Oakwood's other restaurant, Sen5es, and I was eager to see what they had on offer this time. Bistro provides a choice of outdoor and indoor seating.  We took an outdoor table but then moved inside because the sun was a little too warm for us on that day.

We started by ordering a Salmon Bruscetta and Crabmeat Popcorn; the latter seemed rather interesting.  The Bruscetta was topped with smoked salmon, cream cheese and capers while the crabmeat was lightly batter coated and flash fried in the form of pop-corn sized pellets and served in a paper cone with a garlic dip!

The options for mains included risotto, pizza, pasta and a few chicken and fish dishes.  My Chicken Saltimboca turned out pretty good as did my wife's Spaghetti Aglio e Olio which was made with cherry tomatoes, chillies and capers.

Overall, Bistro is a great choice when you want to indulge in rustic Italian food and European staples in a casually upscale ambiance.  There is always a smattering of expats and international visitors here on weekends.

You can see that high quality ingredients go into every preparation here.  While I did not try the desserts and coffee, I understand they are worth raving too.

Another place I have taken a liking to is The Flour Works in Kalyani Nagar.  Finally, a place to have breakfast under old trees.  Yes, breakfast!  Rarity to see any place open early enough for that in Pune.  Bagels, waffles, and eggs made to order - actually they serve a pretty decent version of Eggs Benedict too!

Finally, the other side of town is seeing many more restaurant opening too.  However, the food seems restricted to Indian/Chinese.  The latest one is Spice Story on Baner Road opposite the Symantec office.  The lunch buffet was a pretty nice one, especially the kababs and appetisers.
